Tina said "YOU LOST AND YOU CAN’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT !!! " And then she laughs..... Tina, that is a dictatorship...if you really mean we can't do anything about it, especially if you are hinting that your remark refers to future elections. We DO have elections coming up in November and then again in 2008. I imagine people will begin to catch on to voter machine fraud- and if we really stilll DO live in a DEMOCRACY, where people decide then I hope you will remember the phrase, "the harder they come, the harder they fall." The pleasure you get …

I definitely think there should be some minimal health care for all Americans, but mandating employers to provide this??? How many more laws does this government have to impose on us? Yes, Joe Lieberman may be a republican, and a conservative one at that, but let's get someone in there who knows what our government is supposed to be doing!

Government intervention is fine, but unfortunately the government here in WV is (covertly) owned by coal companies. Government, on the federal level, is owned by other corporations. I'd like to have a viable solution that overides the corporate ownership of government, which can then deal with the tragedy, as happened, here in my home state of WV.

For about 15 years I lived approximately 4 miles from the Sago mine. These were hard working men, living in a place where there are few other choices to make a living. Education has nothing to do with it...I am college educated and left the area (that being one of the reasons for leaving). For many, leaving is not an option. Family, and land ownership being big draws to staying. Actually I have alot more respect for them than the guys climbing the corporate ladder by working 80 hours or more a week, and denying their families the love, affection and …

People unknowingly voted against their self interests last year...thinking their interests were about abortion gays and guns. Little did they know they were voting against their real interests (their children's future). I can only hope we can turn the tide soon, or this country will fall further into the arms of despair.

I refuse to give the Democratic National Party any money. I give to specific candidates I support (for example- MY SENATOR BYRD), but the party won't get my money. Wanna know one reason why? Last week, when the congress was scheduled to vote on majot cuts is social services, while handing out tax cuts to the wealthy, I called them and asked what they were doing to stop a passage of this bill. They suggested I call my elected reps. In other words, they had no answer for me. They were silent, as far as I could tell. As I said …

I always thought it had to do with the wonderful reddish tint many native americans have to their flesh. Silly me. I don't think it's acceptable to be derogatory to anyone and I consider this issue part of the greater struggle...social justice for all human beings. This small battle is only part of the bigger war. Each has to pick their own battle..some for women's rights, some for peace, some for workers' rights, etc etc etc. I'm glad somebody thinks this battle is important, but I don't think it's a battle won that will make much difference.

Accordint to http://www.yaelf.com/questions.shtml (Etymology) 'Squaw' is one of a number of words in English that were borrowed from Eastern Algonquian languages, sometimes via French, during the early contact period. The source in this case is conventionally Massachusett squas (Webster's New World Dictionary, 2nd Edition). The term meant 'young woman' in Massachusett and is attested as early as 1624. In fact, related words derived from Proto-Algonquian *et^kwe:wa (t^ represents a theta - a th sound) 'woman' occur throughout the Algonquian language family. Mostly they're fairly similar to the proto-form and each other (cf. Cree iskwe:w), though in a few languages the descendant …

If you read my first post, you will see I think it IS a battle to be fought. I was only correcting what the origins of the words seem to be. However, in defense of etymological origins, I think, for example, squaw used in a derogatory manner is just that.If it was never meant as derogatory...would it still be considered such? Same as Redskin? (These are questions posed for thought and discussion.) "Nigger" has always been used in a derogatory manner, even with it's etymological and so retains that history of a horrible insult. I was only trying to make the point, …

Wolf, I have a thought? How about getting rid of minimum wage? Isn't minimum wage a false bottom? Would anyone work for minimum wage if companies had to compete for workers? As it is, if somebody offers a worker $6 or $7 an hour, the person seems generous, when it still is NOT a working wage, even here in WV. And your third point??? All of that may have been true when the economy was good and people were still working for minimum wage because they had no skills, but frankly, I don't know if it rings true any more. Too …

The cost of this war will go way beyond the casualties in Iraq . They will permeate our culture for years in the same way Viet Nam did and even more so. PTSD is already surfacing. How ill our mental health system bear that burden? How about domestic violence? Medical costs for the wounded that even ten years ago may not have survived..and of course, genetic defects. And mostly, the psyche of this country ahs been destroyed. See you all at the demo in September!

When I first began posting here, you could respond directly to a person when you ran a mouse over their posted name. Seems that feature has been removed. How unfortunate. I would much prefer to debate the article than malign the person writing it or the person commenting on the article. As for the article, no news here, the spin has made all of us, including democratic leaders very dizzy. Time to get off the ride, gain our equilibrium and talk about issues that matter to us. Mine are bankruptcy issues, medicaid seizures and the ever rising theocracy movement in this …
