Bill Ayers speaks out! An In These Times exclusive.

Worthy of the Land of Lincoln

By Salim Muwakkil

Barack Obama has emerged out of Chicago’s boisterous mix of black and progressive politics as a candidate who just may make history as the nation’s third elected black U.S. senator. He’s an attractive political candidate: well educated and articulate with a history of commitment. He’s also an exotic candidate. First of all, there’s his name. The 41-year-old Obama is the… return to article

Great story and glad to see the coverage of progressive candidates in primary elections. If you want to support Obama, donate at his website at www.obamaforillinois.com or even better if you live in Illinois—work your precinct! This is a winnable race, but it will take a real effort by all of us to register new voters and get them out.

This guy sounds like he has a wonderful sense of balance in the middle of this high strong fracas about who he is, what he is, and where he comes from. I wish him the best!

He sounds like just the person to stand up against the trash being piled on our current senators. He has gone against the grain of capitalism and is still standing. I hope Illinois elects him as their senator.

Wonderful! Amazing! Perfect! Memo to all Democratic primary voters- read and follow “In These Times”!

Jack Ryan vs. Obama. We won’t even have to bother with opposition research on this one.

Seriously, as a conservative with a heart here’s my PSA to you liberals-start working within the reality of the electorate. You put up candidates like this Obama or Kucinich it’s just too damn easy for us.

You can be as faux intellectual as you like. The sad fact of the matter is that if you beta screen a likely voter pool “Obama” is going to read “Osama” in their minds. He has no chance so wake up and be realistic.

Salim, you “ went and wrote” another good read...but I feel you made a feeble pretense at “suckin’ us in”....how?  well, the first thing you wrote describing Mr. Obama was that he is attractive...attractive yet?  Pulled me right down the garden path....yes, a new, up and comer, must be attractive....remember “ The Candidate”....

I should’nt “rag” you but I follow your articles on a regular basis and you usually have more edge...but it did make the subject more “attractive” in my eyes, so I guess you got the point across.....
